A travois is an "A" frame drag pulled by an animal or human across soft terrain made popular by the North American Plains Indians. The basic platform consists of two poles lashed together near the top with a tarp or netting between them for carrying the load. A third pole can be lashed as a cross piece below the platform for stability, thus completing the "A" frame. In an emergency where no other transport is available a travois can be improvised to haul a wounded person or heavy load such as an "I'm Never Coming Home" bag or INCH. When traveling on roadways the addition of wheels to the base of the travois makes it a simple trailer, called a "rolling travois."
