The Chicago Tribune has been the daily leading newspaper in Chicago, Illinois for decades, featuring an increasingly liberal point-of-view in recent years. The Tribune endorsed a Democratic candidate for president for the first time in 2008, when it endorsed Barack Obama.
Its lengthy history precedes the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The Tribune was an early and active supporter of Abraham Lincoln.
