The Smith & Wesson Model 500 is a large frame revolver that fires the .500 S&W Magnum round. It is the most powerful production handgun in the world. (There is one custom pistol, the Pfeifer Zeliska .600 Nitro Express revolver that is slightly more powerful but it is not a production pistol.) It was designed to hunt dangerous game.

Variants

Variants include models which have muzzle brakes instead of compensators and different length barrels.

Appeal to Survivalists

The practical survival applications of the S&W 500 are limited due to its size, intense recoil and relatively rare ammunition. However, a weapon this big, commonly referred to as a "hand cannon" is always a powerful psychological weapon.
