The Roman economy is doing well, but Imperial finances are straining under the burden of Domitian's numerous building projects and the pay raises given to the military. Domitian is forced to debase the currency, which he found hard to do since he thought it reflected badly on an emperor to mint sub par coins. As several Senators were accused of treason, their estates were seized by Domitian, and this became an important source of income.
