History Segment on Hiatus

Due to circumstance beyond my control, I was indisposed, and reposed in a hospital due to a rapid heartbeat. All is well now, but it took a while to get there. As a consequence Jack filled in with history statistics and his take on what they mean. I had already completed "This Year in Film" and "This Year in Music", so I include them below for completeness sake.

--Alex Shrugged

This Year in Film

  • All the King's Men: A rising politician becomes as corrupt the politicians he replaces. (Note that "All the President's Men" is about the Watergate scandal.) [1] [2]
  • Twelve O'Clock High: Starring Gregory Peck as a bomber pilot over Germany and France during World War 2. [1] [3]
  • Neptune's Daughter: Esther Williams swims her way to fame. "Baby It's Cold Outside" wins best original song at the Academy Awards. [1] [4]

This Year in Music

  • (Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend: Vaughn Monroe. (Cowboy songs are popular this year.) [5]
  • Baby Its Cold Outside: Dinah Shore & Buddy Clark. My favorite version is sung by Idina Menzel & Michael Bubl&eacute. [5] [6] [7]
  • All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth: Spike Jones. [5]
